The Howitzer is a cannon found commonly on Civil War battlefields. It is characterized by its relatively short barrel and use of comparatively small propellant charges for use at high velocity. Howitzers of all kinds were employed by both the Union and Confederate ground and naval forces.
Interactions[]
Howitzers are seen in several missions. During The USS Pittsburg the player uses one to destroy enemy positions along the banks of the river. Several are also included as the target objectives during a few missions, with the player having to locate enemy Howitzers and destroy them using explosives.
The weapons themselves have an extremely high stopping power and wide field of damage, either killing or seriously injuring any soldier caught within the blast radius. On the higher difficulty levels, most hits within even a wide radius of a Howitzer cannon ball will result in the player's death.
